Outdoor Rain pants
What should a good rain pants meet?
A rain pants must of course be waterproof. The waterproofness of rain pants is indicated in water column, but what do those different values actually mean? You can read that in the overview below!
- From 0 mm: The rain pants is water-repellent, but not waterproof.
- From 1,000 mm: The rain pants repels water, but is not resistant to pressure. For example, if you sit on a wet chair, the rain pants will eventually start leaking.
- From 2,000 mm: The rain pants remains waterproof even during longer rain showers, but will still leak under pressure.
- From 5,000 mm: The rain pants is resistant to long and intensive weather, even under high pressure the pants remain waterproof. With very prolonged high pressure, the product may eventually start leaking.
- From 15,000 mm: The rain pants is resistant to extremely heavy rain showers and even keeps you dry underwater.
Which rain pants is the best?
It is also important that the rain pants have breathability, although this feature is less important in rain pants than in a rain jacket. This is because the legs sweat less and become extremely warm less quickly than the upper body. When purchasing rain pants, check if the pant legs can be made narrower with, for example, Velcro, to prevent rain from entering through the bottom of the pants. In addition, adjusting the pant legs is useful for easy putting on and taking off of the rain pants. If the rain pants are wide enough, you can even keep your shoes on when putting on and taking off the pants.
Taped seams prevent rain from leaking through the seams. Most rain pants can be made very small and stored, making them easy to carry. Rain pants are mainly available in neutral dark colors. The reason for this is that mud/dirt is less noticeable on dark pants. You can also find rain pants for both women and men at Plutosport.nl.
How should I wash rain pants?
Clean the outside of the rain pants with a sponge and warm water. Washing the rain pants in the washing machine can cause them to lose their waterproof properties. Always read the care label. If washing the rain pants is allowed, do not use fabric softener. Hang the rain pants to dry and avoid direct sunlight and heat.
