Outdoor caps & beanies
Why wear an outdoor hat?
A lot of body heat is lost through the head, which you probably find less bothersome during warm summer days. On the other hand, the sun tends to shine more on warm days, making it wise to wear an outdoor hat or cap. The front visor of the hat protects the face from bright sun rays or rain. An outdoor hat provides overall protection for the entire head. Some outdoor hats have a flap at the back to prevent direct sunlight on the neck, thus avoiding sunburn and excessive heat. If you plan to go hiking during cold winter days, it's important to protect yourself adequately to retain body heat! A beanie ensures that the head is well protected and minimizes heat loss from the body.
What material should my outdoor hat or beanie be made of?
Most outdoor hats are made of cotton, nylon, or polyester. An outdoor hat made of 100% nylon or polyester dries quickly and is lightweight. We recommend avoiding wearing cotton caps during long hikes as they absorb sweat but do not wick it away, leaving the head damp and dirty, which is something you want to avoid.
Tip
The outdoor hat is often adjustable with a click system, Velcro, or buckle. Velcro closure offers the most flexibility for adjusting the outdoor hat. Buckles and click systems are more reliable as they are less likely to come undone.
