Hockey Skates and Figure Skates vs. Nords

The biggest difference between hockey skates and figure skates compared to Nords is the type of blade. Nords have long, straight blades, while the blades of hockey and figure skates are much shorter and have a rounded tip at the front. Long blades, like those on Nords, allow for long strides and high speeds, making them ideal for long-distance skating. In contrast, hockey and figure skates make it more challenging to build and maintain speed. However, these skates offer much greater flexibility, allowing for quick turns, spins, and the ability to skate backward easily.

Hockey Skates

In hockey, you need to move quickly and smoothly on the ice, so skates are a crucial part of the equipment. The skate boot is often made from hard materials, enabling it to absorb impacts. The hard toe cap of the skate is designed to protect the feet from the puck.

Figure Skates

For figure skating, it is also essential to move gracefully on the ice! The blades of figure skates are characterized by their toe picks at the front, which provide support for performing spins and jumps. The boots of figure skates are often high, providing ample ankle stability. Women generally opt for white figure skates, while men typically choose black.

Tip

Purchase both hockey skates and figure skates in your regular shoe size to avoid slipping inside the boot. Wearing skates that are the wrong size can cause blisters!
