Hockey socks
Hockey socks from Brabo and Reece make sure your shinguards stay in place and prevent chafing while playing hockey. They're made from a synthetic fabric that releases sweat well, so your legs stay dry. Choose socks with extra padding at the heel and toes if you're prone to blisters.
Different types of socks
During a hockey match, wearing shinguards is mandatory. Many hockey players find wearing shinguards uncomfortable and irritating. Wearing the right socks makes sure the shinguards stay in place and chafing is prevented, which removes a large part of the irritation. There are also socks fitted at the bottom with a strap that runs under the foot. You wear these under the shinguard, and they're specially made to prevent skin irritation.
What else do the socks do?
Good socks make sure sweat is released so the legs stay dry. Not all socks are suitable for this. Socks made of 100% cotton don't have the property of releasing sweat. They absorb the sweat but then don't release it again. This makes the socks feel wet and uncomfortable.
What material is suitable?
A sock made from a synthetic fabric is well suited as a sweat conductor. This fabric absorbs the sweat and makes sure it's released to the outside air. A sock made from a synthetic fabric combined with cotton is also suitable. It's also important that an elastic fabric, such as elastane, is added to the socks. This makes the sock stretchy, so it can easily be pulled on over the shinguards.
Extra protection
Well-fitting socks also protect the feet against blister formation. Do you suffer from this a lot? Then choose socks with extra padding and protective pads at the heel and toes. These properties prevent the formation of blisters.
