What Are Sports Socks?
When you go to the gym, it’s always recommended to wear special sports socks rather than the regular socks you typically wear. Sports socks are made of different materials, reducing friction with your shoe and allowing sweat to be easily wicked away. If you wear regular socks while working out, you may experience discomforts such as blisters, sweaty feet, and infections more quickly.
What Should Good Sports Socks Offer?
Good sports socks protect your skin from friction inside your shoe. They are seamless and include cushioning pads at the toes and heels. Additionally, they absorb sweat effectively. Some socks are anatomically shaped, meaning they fully conform to the shape of your feet. Usually, this means there is a left and a right sock. This precise fit eliminates empty spaces that can cause friction and lead to blisters. Moreover, many sports socks have reinforced areas at the heel and toes, making them more durable and helping your shoes last longer as well.
What Materials Are Sports Socks Made Of?
Sports socks should ideally not be made of pure cotton. Cotton absorbs moisture and becomes damp or wet when you sweat. We recommend socks made of synthetic fibers or a blend of wool or cotton with synthetic materials. These materials have breathable properties. To ensure this functionality is fully effective, it’s also essential to wear breathable shoes.
How Should I Wash My Sports Socks?
Wash your sports socks in a laundry bag to avoid losing them in the washing machine. Do not use fabric softener, as it can damage the technical fibers. Avoid putting them in the dryer, as the heat reduces their effectiveness. Instead, hang them up to dry.
Tip
Make sure to choose the right size sports socks. Socks that are too large or too small can cause blisters or ingrown nails.
