The Insulating Layer

Whether you are actively skiing or standing still, it is important for your body to stay warm. The 3-layer system provides guidelines to help you decide what clothing to wear on the slopes. The first layer consists of thermal clothing. Thermal clothing wicks moisture away from the skin to the next layer, keeping your body dry and warm. The second layer can consist of a ski pullover. This mid-layer has an insulating function and further transports moisture from the first layer to the outside. The third layer serves a protective function against snow, rain, and wind. You can wear a ski jacket as the third layer.

Material and Fit

To prevent heat loss, it is important that the ski pullover fits well against the body. To avoid snow or wind getting into your neck, ski pullovers are equipped with a high collar. Some ski pullovers have a short zipper, making it easy to put on and take off. You can also open the zipper if you want some ventilation.

The material a ski pullover is made of should have moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties. Fleece and stretch are commonly used materials. These materials are comfortable and provide a lot of warmth. We do not recommend a cotton ski pullover. Cotton absorbs moisture but does not wick it away, causing the clothing to remain wet. This can become heavy and cause the body to cool down quickly. Cotton combined with a synthetic material is a possibility.

Fleece is soft and warm. A fleece ski pullover is great to wear when it is very cold. If it is a bit warmer, we recommend a thinner ski pullover.

Tips

An alternative to a ski pullover is a fleece or a sweater.

Each ski pullover has a detailed product description. If you have any questions, feel free to ask our customer service.
