Volleyball Shoes
Protection
Volleyball is often played indoors in a hall. The floor in a hall is hard, which puts a lot of pressure on your joints when you are moving and jumping vigorously. To keep this pressure as low as possible, it is important to wear shoes that offer a lot of cushioning. Special volleyball shoes are therefore equipped with good shock absorption, so that the hard impacts that come with high jumps are absorbed. In addition, a volleyball shoe must provide stability and support, so you can make quick movements without losing balance. Finally, good grip is an important feature of a volleyball shoe. An indoor floor can be slippery, and to avoid slipping and to be able to push off well, you need a lot of grip.
Fitting the shoes
To ensure that you choose the volleyball shoes in the right size, it is best to try them on in the afternoon. As the day progresses, the feet expand and in this way you try the feet when they are at their largest, so that they do not turn out to be too small later. During the fitting, wear the socks that you also wear while playing volleyball. There should be about 0.5 to 1 cm of space between the tips of your toes and the front of the volleyball shoes. Volleyball shoes that contain laces fit better than shoes with Velcro.
When you have the shoes on, make sure that your heels are well enclosed. No finger should fit between your foot and the sides of the shoe. The heel cap must encompass your entire heel, therefore it must be high enough. Also, your heel should not shift in the heel cap. With some effort, you can press the heel cap a bit, then the heel cap provides sufficient resistance.
Ventilation
Volleyball shoes need to breathe well, so you don't get sweaty feet. Most shoes have mesh in certain places. This is a thin section with holes, which allows for good ventilation.
Volleyball shoes also often have a non-marking rubber outsole. This sole ensures that no marks are left on the floor.
Techniques
Certain brands have developed a technique to provide volleyball shoes with specific features. Asics, for example, has developed the Asics Stability Cradle system. This system is located under the midfoot and provides stability.
Mizuno has designed multiple techniques, including the Mizuno Wave technology. This is an innovative technology that provides cushioning and stability. In addition, many Mizuno shoes are equipped with the InterCool ventilation system. This system is located in the sole of the volleyball shoe and ensures optimal ventilation and comfort.
When to replace?
Volleyball shoes are used intensively and will wear out over time. Wear on the outsole results in less grip and the shock absorption of the midsole also decreases. The risk of injuries increases due to the reduced cushioning. If your shoes have been unused in the closet for a year, the shock absorption also decreases. Prevent injuries and replace your volleyball shoes on time.
Tips
Take the shoes out of your bag after use and let them air out, so that unpleasant odors do not linger in the shoes.
