Wetsuits for children

Even when the sun is shining, the water can still be cold. A wetsuit keeps your child at the right temperature while supping, bodyboarding or any other water sport.

What size wetsuit do I need?

A wetsuit should fit tightly around the body. If it is too loose, too much water will run into it and the wetsuit will lose its function. The neoprene can stretch slightly as soon as it comes into contact with water, so when trying it on, the wetsuit should be a bit tight.

How thick should the wetsuit be?

As soon as a child gets cold, the fun is quickly over. In summer, a wetsuit of 3mm thick is often sufficient, mainly aimed at sun protection. On colder autumn or spring days, you will need a thicker wetsuit, around 5mm. In general, the thicker, the warmer.

What material are wetsuits made of?

Wetsuits are made of neoprene, a flexible and well-insulating type of rubber. Neoprene is not water-repellent: a little bit of water gets between the skin and suit, which quickly warms up the body. The insulating wetsuit then retains that heat.

Tip

A wetsuit does not have a floating function. Therefore, always put on a life jacket over the wetsuit.
