Prevent athlete's foot

Fungal infections can cause annoying itching and sometimes even pain in the feet. Fungi are common in shower rooms, especially shared ones. The dry, tough outer layer of the skin protects feet against fungus. Once this layer becomes softer, its protective function decreases. This layer becomes softer, for example, due to the hot water of the shower or sweating. So make sure your child wears slippers in the shower after playing football.

Another advantage of wearing slippers in the shower is that the risk of slipping is much lower. A wet shower floor is slippery, and with slippers on, your child gets a good grip.

Is athlete's foot a big deal?

Fungal infections cause itching and pain. Feet with fungus look less nice and fresh. Fungal infections are mostly just annoying. For people with diabetes, a fungal infection can be more serious. In these people, the fungus has a greater chance of penetrating deeper into the skin, which can cause infections.

Slides or flip-flops

The biggest difference between types of slippers is mainly in the strap. Slippers with a wide strap are also called slides. The toes slide under this strap, keeping the slipper on the foot. Another type of slipper is the flip-flop. Flip-flops have a small post between the big toe and the second toe. All slippers have a sole that provides grip.

Tip

Make sure your child dries their feet properly after showering. This is especially important between the toes. Damp feet in shoes are a breeding ground for fungus.
