Is walking healthy?
Walking is fun and healthy, even for children! During walking, you can discover new things and enjoy nature. In the summer, you can enjoy the sun, in the autumn and spring you can get some fresh air, and with a bit of luck, you can take a walk in the snow in winter. Being outside makes us happy and gives us new energy!
Walking is good for your body, it helps strengthen your muscles. It also trains your lung capacity, allowing you to build a good condition this way.
Outdoor clothing
To prevent getting too cold or too warm, it's best to dress your child in multiple layers of clothing. This way, you can add an extra layer when it's cold, or remove a layer when it gets warmer.
In winter, it's naturally colder outside, so it's recommended to wear a thermal shirt and pants as the first layer. As the second layer, you can wear a pullover, and as the third layer, wear a warm wind- and waterproof winter jacket.
In summer, one or two layers are often sufficient, depending on the temperature. You can opt for a light shirt and possibly a breathable vest, so the body can effectively release heat. When the sun shines brightly, it's also wise to wear a cap to keep your face out of the sun.
Outdoor shoes
There are suitable hiking shoes available for every season. On warm summer days, it's lovely to wear sandals, but boots are ideal in the autumn forest! For longer distances, there are real hiking shoes for children. a distinction is made between high and low hiking shoes. High hiking shoes are particularly suitable for walks on mountainous terrain because the high shaft provides good ankle support. Low shoes are also good enough for walks on paved paths. Low hiking shoes are slightly more breathable than high hiking shoes, which can be more comfortable, especially in summer.
Tip
Check the weather forecast before the walk. Is rain expected? Then bring a rain jacket!
