Winter Jackets for Kids

In winter, you naturally want your child to look cool. Since the weather in the Netherlands can be quite unpredictable and changeable, it's best to choose a wind- and water-resistant jacket. The waterproofness of a jacket is measured in water column. The "water column" is expressed in millimeters, and here's what it means:

  • From 0 mm: The rainwear is water-repellent, but not waterproof.
  • From 1,000 mm: The rainwear will resist water, but it is not resistant to pressure. For example, if you sit on a wet chair, the rainwear will eventually leak.
  • From 2,000 mm: The rainwear remains waterproof even in longer rain showers, but it will still leak under pressure.
  • From 5,000 mm: The rainwear can withstand long and intense weather, and it remains waterproof even under high pressure. However, with prolonged high pressure, the product may eventually leak.
  • From 15,000 mm: The rainwear is resistant to heavy rain and will keep you dry even underwater.

Does your child tend to get warm quickly or is he or she always running, cycling, and moving around? In that case, make sure the jacket has breathable properties. This type of jacket will allow heat to escape, so the jacket doesn’t feel "hot."

Spring and Autumn Jackets

During the transitional seasons, a winter jacket is often too warm, but it's still too cold to let your child go outside without one. A mid-season jacket is the perfect solution! These jackets keep out the cold, wind, and rain, but aren't necessarily very warm on their own.

Many mid-season jackets come with a hood, but they are usually not fully waterproof. You can find information about how waterproof the jacket is in the product description.

Softshell Jacket

A softshell jacket can also be used as a mid-season jacket. The softshell jacket for kids is breathable, windproof, and water-repellent, making it suitable for various weather types.

Since elastane is also incorporated into softshells, they are very flexible, providing a lot of freedom of movement. The inside of the jacket is often lined with fleece, making it perfect for wearing on colder autumn days.
