Skating Clothing for Children

It’s especially important for children to be well-dressed and to stay warm while skating. If kids get cold, they often stop enjoying themselves and quickly want to do something warmer. The three-layer system is a great guide for skating too: the first layer is thermal clothing, the second layer is a pullover, and the third layer is a windproof jacket. Does your child tend to get cold easily? Then consider thermal skating pants!

Not only is skating clothing important, but so are accessories! Gloves, a hat, and a neck warmer offer extra protection against the cold.

Which Skates for Children?

Many children take their first steps on the ice using double gliders, which help them keep their balance and prevent falls. Once they’re more comfortable on the ice, they can move on to single gliders. All gliders attach under regular shoes, so they fit across several sizes and last for years! If children participate in weekly skating training, they will probably switch to “noren” skates. If your child only skates when there’s natural ice, figure skates or hockey skates might be a better fit, as they offer much more agility than “noren.”
