Running thermal pants and long underwear
Thermal Pants vs. Long Sports Underwear
Both thermal pants and long sports underwear are designed to provide extra warmth to the lower body during the cold winter months! While thermal clothing is often available in both a special winter version and a summer variant, there is no confusion about thermal pants. In the summer, it's quite unlikely that you’ll wear long thermal pants outside, so we can say that thermal pants are mainly suitable for wearing in winter. Thermal clothing and sports underwear not only keep your legs warm but also ensure they stay dry and fresh! Thanks to the breathability of the pants, fresh air can circulate and moisture can be quickly wicked away. This allows the body to maintain a balanced temperature, preventing you from getting too hot or too cold.
When to Wear an Extra Layer?
It may seem very obvious, but it’s worth mentioning: check the temperature outside and consider the weather forecast. Do you get cold easily and cold weather is expected? Then it's a good idea to add an extra pair of pants and possibly a long-sleeve base layer! If you tend to get warm quickly while running and mild weather is predicted, then you can skip the extra layer.
Tip
Thermal pants and long sports underwear fit snugly around the lower body, making it easy to wear a running short (or, if it’s very cold, a long sports pant) over them. Many runners follow the rule that you can wear winter thermal clothing or long sports underwear up to 15°C. Above that temperature, it's recommended to opt for summer thermal clothing or regular shorts and a short-sleeve running shirt.
