What is a daypack?

A daypack is a backpack that's perfect for a day out. Daypacks come in various sizes, ranging between 10 and 35 litres. Depending on what you want to bring on your hike, you choose the right size. In principle, a 20-litre daypack fits enough food, drink and a rain jacket.

Daypack versus backpack

The biggest difference between a daypack and a large backpack is size: a daypack is much smaller, so you can fit noticeably fewer items in it. A large backpack is often used when someone travels for a longer period, though that traveller often also brings a daypack along. After all, hikes and day trips are often made while travelling, so a day rucksack (a daypack) shouldn't be missing then!

How big should a daypack be?

The size of backpacks is often expressed in number of litres. A daypack under 20 litres falls under the "small daypacks" category, fitting some food and drink, but then there isn't much room left to also bring a jacket or jumper. These small daypacks are, for example, very suitable for children or when you don't need much for your trip! Want to bring more items? Then it's definitely worth bringing a daypack of 21 to 35 litres.

Tip

Going hiking in a rainy area? Then choose a waterproof bag or buy a special rain cover for your bag, keeping your things dry!
