How do I wear my backpack?
It is advisable to - before buying a backpack - walk around with some weight in the bag. Feel how the backpack fits, do the straps close well, is it not too big or too small, does it feel comfortable? With some models, it is also possible to adjust the straps, so you can completely customize the backpack to your body. By adjusting the hip and shoulder straps properly, the backpack will sit more stable and the shoulders and back will be relieved.
Which backpack suits me?
Think carefully about what you want to take with you on your trip and how you want to carry it. Do you need lots of compartments? Or do you want a backpack that you can fully unzip, so you can organize everything in your bag? Do you want a separate compartment to separate, for example, your dirty and clean clothes? All questions to think about beforehand! If the backpack consists of only one large compartment, it is of course possible to create separate compartments yourself by using, for example, a garbage bag for your dirty laundry and a vacuum bag for your clean clothes.
Some backpacks come with a rain cover or have one attached to the bag, if this is not the case, it is wise to purchase one. Most backpacks are not completely waterproof and it can happen regularly during your travels that the backpack gets wet.
Safe traveling with your backpack
A backpack offers slightly less protection than a suitcase, as a backpack cannot be locked by default. If the zipper of the backpack consists of two zippers, it is possible to lock the zippers together with a lock. Preferably choose a TSA lock, which can be opened by customs without having to force the lock. There are waist pouches specially designed to store important (travel) documents and money. You can wear these pouches under your clothes on your body, so you always have your valuables safely with you!
How do I pack my backpack?
While traveling, your backpack is like a wardrobe that you always carry with you. All the items you have with you at that moment are constantly on your back. Pack your bag tactically, and always the same way, so you always know where you can find everything. To prevent back pain, it is best to put heavier items at the top of the bag, as close to your back as possible. Use the space in your bag wisely. For example, you can fill the hollow parts of your shoes with items and roll up clothes so they take up little space. Do not bring too many items on your trip. It would be a shame if the souvenirs from all the beautiful destinations you are going to visit no longer fit in your bag!
Tip
Bring a daypack for day trips, so you don't have to drag your entire backpack everywhere you go.
