Protect Your Eyes!

For many people, sunglasses are an essential part of their outfit. Beyond their style appeal, sunglasses serve an important protective function: shielding your eyes. UV radiation is not only harmful to your skin but also to your eyes. Damage caused by UV rays often goes unnoticed until later in life. That’s why a good pair of sunglasses is essential! Here’s some helpful information and tips on what to consider when buying sunglasses.

Criteria for Good Sunglasses

Good sunglasses should meet the following criteria:

  • They provide 100% UV protection (look for labels such as UV400 or 100% UV protection).
  • The lenses and frame should fit well, ensuring light cannot reach your eyes from above, below, or the sides.

Good to Know:

  • The CE mark indicates whether the sunglasses meet the minimum requirements set by the European Union. Each level indicates how much light is absorbed. A CE mark of 3 or higher provides optimal protection against glare, with at least 75% light absorption.
  • The color of the lenses does not affect UV protection. However, certain colors can enhance contrast.
  • The appropriate lens color depends on the situation. For winter sports, darker lenses are ideal, while lighter lenses are better suited for walking in the forest. For everyday use, gray or brown lenses are most suitable.
  • Some sunglasses feature polarized lenses, which filter out glare from sunlight on water or wet roads, providing a calm and high-contrast view.

Tip

Choose sunglasses with lenses made of unbreakable polycarbonate. This material prevents scratches that could impair your vision.
