Salopette vs. Skating Tights
A salopette is a tight-fitting skating pant that comes with suspenders, ensuring that the pants stay securely in place while keeping your back warm! Salopettes are available in different thicknesses; if you’re skating on an indoor rink, a thin salopette may be warm enough! However, if you’re skating on outdoor ice and there’s a cold breeze, it’s probably more comfortable to wear a thermal salopette!
Skaters who prefer pants without suspenders can opt for skating tights. These are tight-fitting pants that, like the salopette, are very comfortable. The only difference is that skating tights do not have straps over the shoulders.
What Material Should a Skating Pant Be?
Skating pants are generally available in two different materials: thermo or lycra. As you might expect, thermo skating pants are the warmer option, while lycra skating pants are the lighter choice. Although thermo skating pants are also quite flexible, lycra pants are the most elastic option. Since both materials fit snugly against the body, there is often little difference between men's and women's skating pants.
