Choosing a sleeping bag for camping
Check the product description for the sleeping bag's temperature rating: it shows down to which outdoor temperature you'll sleep comfortably. Staying at a campsite with electricity, and so noise from neighbours and traffic, a slightly roomier sleeping bag is more pleasant for freedom of movement.
Classic or mummy
At the campsite, where you're usually not facing extreme cold, a classic sleeping bag is often warm enough. Heading to higher or colder places, a mummy sleeping bag retains more warmth.
Material
Sleeping bags are filled with synthetic material or down. Synthetic is cheaper, still insulates well in damp conditions and is easy to wash. Down is pricier but insulates better in every situation and weighs less, handy if you have to carry the sleeping bag a lot.
