Why Wear Shin Guards?

Since 1999, it has been mandatory to wear shin guards during football matches, and there's a good reason for this! Football is a contact sport, so you frequently come into contact with opponents. This ranges from light touches, such as during a corner kick, to severe collisions in a tackle, which can sometimes result in serious injuries. The lower legs often take the brunt of these impacts, but wearing shin guards significantly reduces the risk of serious injury!

What Size Shin Guards?

A shin guard that is too tight will restrict your movement, while one that is too large won’t stay in place and thus won’t provide the protection you need. It’s crucial to wear shin guards in the correct size. Many shin guards have a hard, molded shield, so you'll likely feel quickly if the shin guard fits well or if it is too large or too small. As a guideline, a shin guard should cover at least three-quarters of your shin and extend no more than five centimeters below the knee.

Tip

Don’t leave your shin guards in your bag; hang them up! This way, they can air out, which reduces the risk of bacteria and extends their lifespan.

Do you prefer shin guards without ankle socks? You can use stay guards to ensure that the shin guards stay securely in place!
