What is a bodyboard?

A bodyboard is a short board of about one meter and is made of hydrodynamic foam, which keeps the board afloat. The bodyboards are equipped with a handy wrist strap, which prevents you from losing your bodyboard if you unexpectedly fall off. The top of the bodyboard is made to lie on with the upper body, so it is important that the top of the board feels comfortable. The bottom of the board must glide smoothly over the waves, so the underside must be smooth.

What is bodyboarding?

Bodyboarding is derived from the sport of surfing, the biggest difference being that you stand on the board while surfing and lie on the board while bodyboarding. Before you can go out to sea, it is first useful to practice how to lie properly on the board. Place your bodyboard in the sand, wrap your hands around the top, and lie down with your lower abdomen on the lower part of the board. Once you are comfortable, you can start practicing paddling. Moving forward with the bodyboard works the same as with the front crawl; you paddle with your hands along the side of the board.
