The Right Size Ski Boot

Since ski boots will be worn all day, it’s important that your child’s ski boots are the right size. To check if the ski boots fit properly, have your child stand up straight so their feet press against the back of the boots. Are their toes just barely touching the front of the boots? And when they bend into a skiing stance, do their toes lift away from the front again? If the answer to both questions is “yes,” then the ski boots are the right size. Also, make sure the heels don’t lift off the sole when they are in a skiing position. If they do, the ski boots are too small.

Children grow quickly, and so do their feet. Ski boots for kids may seem impractical, especially considering that in a year, your child may need one or two sizes larger. This is exactly why adjustable ski boots exist, designed to grow along with your kids!

Ski Socks

No matter how well ski boots fit when trying them on, if they’re not paired with good ski socks, all comfort is lost on the slopes. Ski socks have extra reinforcement in areas that are prone to pressure points in ski boots. Additionally, specialized ski socks help keep feet warm. Make sure the ski socks are the right size! Socks that are too big will slide, causing blisters. Socks that are too small will pinch, giving your child cold feet.

Tips

Trim your child’s toenails before heading off on a ski holiday. Long toenails can make ski boots feel too tight, causing discomfort. Have your child wear ski socks when trying on ski boots. After all, these are the socks they’ll be wearing while skiing! Don’t fasten the ski boots too tightly, as this can cause pinching and lead to cold feet.
