Sports bras for football
Why Wear a Sports Bra?
Your breasts don’t contain muscles; they are made of tissue. During football, you’re constantly moving, and your breasts can experience significant impact. While muscles absorb shocks, tissue does not. Because breasts lack muscles, the impact isn’t absorbed, which can damage the tissue. This may cause your breasts to sag, and once this happens, it cannot be reversed. Additionally, your shoulders and neck are placed under high pressure. Prevent this by wearing a good sports bra!
Types of Sports Bras
The level of support varies between sports bras. There are bras with low, medium, high, or extreme support. Football is an intensive sport, so it’s recommended to choose a sports bra with high support. Make sure to wear the correct size to fully benefit from its supportive properties. A sports bra should fit snugly but not be too tight. If you feel pressure when breathing, the sports bra is too tight.
There are differences between sports bras with cups and those without cups. Women with larger breasts are advised to choose a sports bra with cups to keep their breasts securely in place. Women with smaller to medium-sized breasts can also wear sports bras without cups. A sports bra without cups consists of one flat piece that presses the breasts against the rib cage, minimizing movement during football. Most sports bras feature a reinforced underband for support, replacing traditional underwires.
The shoulder straps also influence the level of support. Wide straps provide more support than narrow straps, and crossed straps distribute shoulder strain better than straight straps.
Additionally, sports bras come with or without closures. The closure can be at the front or back. This doesn’t significantly affect the level of support, so choose based on your personal preference.
Moisture-Wicking
Sports bras are made from materials that wick sweat away from the body. Some brands use special technologies to enhance this property. For example, Nike incorporates its Nike Dri-Fit technology. It’s also important that the sports bra is durable and resistant to wear.
Washing Instructions
Always wash your sports bra according to the care label instructions. Wash your sports bra as soon as possible after playing football to prevent sweat from settling in and creating a persistent odor. Ideally, wash your sports bra by hand with lukewarm water and delicate detergent. Avoid using fabric softener. Don’t soak the bra for too long, as this can damage its key properties. Rinse thoroughly to ensure no soap residue remains.
If you don’t have time for a hand wash or find it inconvenient, you can wash the sports bra in a laundry bag using a gentle machine cycle. Let the bra air dry on a drying rack. Sports bras with underwires should not be machine-washed.
Tips
Check the product descriptions to see the level of support each sports bra offers. When trying one on, move and jump to test how it fits during activity. Also, raise your arms. If the bra shifts upwards, you need one with a smaller band size.
