Indoor footballs
Futsal
Since 2002, the KNVB has adopted the name futsal instead of indoor football. The word futsal is derived from the Spanish words ‘futbol’ (football) and ‘sala’ (indoor). An official futsal match is played between two teams of five players, lasts two halves of 25 minutes each, and the field measures approximately 20 by 40 meters.
Size and Weight of an Indoor Football
As with any ball sport, futsal also has specific requirements for the ball. An official match ball must be size 4, which means it should weigh between 400 and 440 grams. The ball contains an absorbent layer, which gives it a weaker bounce. Playing with a so-called "flat ball" demands a greater reliance on the technique of the players.
Material of a Futsal Ball
Futsal balls are made of durable material, and in most cases, polyurethane is used. Thanks to polyurethane, the ball is lightweight and hardly sensitive to moisture.
