Padded jackets
A padded jacket is both functional and stylish. Think of the puffer, the down jacket or a version without down. Want to stay warm through winter? Then choose a padded jacket.
Winter versus summer
Like many other models, the padded jacket is available in both a winter and a summer version. Both versions are lightweight, yet there are differences worth noting. The winter padded jacket is nice and warm and often water-repellent, wind-resistant and insulating. The insulating function ensures body heat is retained well, so you won't feel cold quickly. With the summer padded jacket, the focus is much less on warmth, since it's already warmer outside than in winter. The summer jacket is therefore thinner than the winter jacket, making it very suitable to wear in spring, autumn or on cooler summer days.
Down versus synthetic materials
Both down and synthetic materials are used as filling for padded jackets, and both keep you warm. Still, these materials have different properties. If animal welfare matters to you, a padded jacket with synthetic filling is the logical choice. Synthetic materials are heavier than down, though, so you carry a bit more weight and the jacket won't fold up as small as a down jacket. On the other hand, a down jacket handles moisture worse than the synthetic version. If you're often out in rainy weather, it's better to choose a padded jacket with synthetic filling instead of a down jacket.
