Drinking During Hockey

Water, after oxygen, is the most important element for the human body. Water plays a crucial role in regulating your body temperature. By sweating, the body eliminates waste products. Dehydration leads to reduced muscle function, which can cause cramps. If the fluid is not replenished in time, dehydration can occur. Too little fluid reduces performance and harms your health. That is why it is important to drink enough before, during, and after a hockey training session or match to compensate for fluid loss.

Water vs. Sports Drinks

During intense and prolonged physical activity, using isotonic sports drinks can be beneficial. Isotonic sports drinks promote fluid absorption, provide energy, and help replenish lost minerals. In all other cases, water is sufficient! Additionally, isotonic drinks often have a flavor.

Water Bottle

A water bottle is convenient to take with you when playing hockey. Simply put it in your bag so you always have it on hand. The most commonly used water bottles by hockey players are bottles with a screw cap and retractable drinking spout. The capacity of each bottle can vary. There are also special bottle holders. These are ideal when you need to carry several bottles, such as for a whole team.

Tip

Drinking small sips helps prevent sloshing in your stomach.
