Why Do I Need a Sports Bra?
Breasts are primarily made up of fatty tissue, connective tissue, and glands, so it’s not possible to train them to maintain their firm shape. However, you can wear a sports bra! A sports bra provides proper support for your breasts and prevents the tissue (and therefore the breasts) from stretching during exercise. Additionally, the movement of your breasts while exercising can cause discomfort in your back and neck, but wearing a sports bra can help prevent this.
What Makes a Good Sports Bra?
A good sports bra supports the breasts, wicks away sweat, and prevents chafing. Of course, the type of sports bra that works best depends on the individual. Women with smaller breasts generally need less support and may prefer a simpler design. Women with larger breasts, on the other hand, require much more support, and a sports bra with wide straps is often ideal for them. Naturally, you’ll need more support for high-impact activities like running on a treadmill or during an intense workout than for lower-impact exercises like using a leg press machine or stationary bike.
What Size Sports Bra Do I Need?
To fully benefit from a sports bra’s features, it’s essential to wear the correct size! A properly fitted sports bra will be slightly tighter than a regular bra but should not restrict your breathing. A sports bra that’s too loose is also not recommended, as it won’t provide adequate support and may cause painful chafing. Wearing the correct size sports bra can also improve your posture, reducing the risk of injuries! Unfortunately, the size of your regular bra doesn’t always match the size of your sports bra. Sometimes, a slightly smaller sports bra can provide better support and be more comfortable.
