Preventing Foot Fungus
Mold is common in general shower areas. Foot fungus is irritating, causing itching and even pain. Your feet have a protective dry, hard outer layer of skin, but when your feet get wet, this protective function is compromised. This makes you more susceptible to foot fungus. Prevent this by wearing slippers in general shower areas.
In addition to providing protection, slippers also offer grip on the wet, slippery floor of the shower area. Wearing slippers helps prevent slipping.
Can Foot Fungus Be Harmful?
Foot fungus can be problematic for people with diabetes. The fungus can penetrate deeper into the skin due to diabetes, potentially causing infections. For people without diabetes, foot fungus is primarily annoying. It causes itching and pain, and makes your feet look less attractive and fresh.
Various Models
Slippers come in various models. The main difference is the type of strap over your foot. Bath slippers have a wide strap over the top of the foot where you slide your toes underneath. Flip-flops are slippers with a small ‘post’ between the big toe and the second toe.
Tip
In addition to wearing slippers, it's important to dry your feet thoroughly after showering, especially between the toes. Fungus can also develop if you put on shoes with damp feet.
