The Right Shirt
Not every shirt is suitable for working out. A fitness shirt is made from material that breathes and quickly wicks away sweat. This keeps your body dry and at the right temperature. Extra ventilation is provided through breathable mesh panels. If the shirt contains elastic components, this improves freedom of movement. Overall, these features ensure that you can fully focus on your workout, which positively impacts your performance.
Technology
Some brands apply special technology to their shirts. For example, Adidas uses ClimaLite technology to ensure that the fitness shirt quickly wicks away sweat, keeping your body dry and cool. Nike's Dri-Fit technology and Puma's DryCell technology have the same effect.
Washing Instructions
Sweat quickly soaks into your workout clothes, so it's important to wash your fitness shirt soon after exercise. Check the instructions on the label inside the shirt. Avoid using fabric softener, as it can damage the technical fabrics and reduce the shirt's breathability. The shirt is made of quick-drying material, so hang it up to dry. The heat from the dryer can damage the elastic fibers. A liquid detergent is preferred, as powder detergent can leave stains and is harder to rinse out.
Tip
Does the unpleasant sweat smell linger even after washing your fitness shirt? Don't throw it away—use vinegar! Vinegar has disinfecting properties and neutralizes odors. Place the shirt in a bucket and add about 1/3 of a bottle of vinegar. Let the shirt soak overnight, then wash it in the washing machine. Result… no more bad odor!
